Omar Shapo started his A Level studies at Croydon College in September 2014. He has just received his final results and has achieved A* in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics and an A in Chemistry. This is a fantastic achievement and has secured him a place at the prestigious Imperial College London to study Physics. Before starting his degree Omar is taking a year out and is volunteering at an inner city charity that supplies tutors in schools for children from disadvantage backgrounds. When asked about his time at Croydon College Omar said “I have really enjoyed myself and the teachers are brilliant” and when asked what makes Croydon College standout he commented “Croydon College was an inclusive place to study, where the college trusts the students and allows them to grow independently”
Overall Croydon College is celebrating a number of other personal successes with six A Level subjects achieving 100% passes. Students taking Sociology and English did particularly well achieving significantly more high grades than the national rate.
The college’s largest provision is vocational subjects, equivalent to A Levels, and early indications are that success rates have once again improved, with more results yet to come.
The college can also boast success rates for Apprentices which continue to be significantly higher than the national rate.
