Four UNICEF Steering group students have been representing UNICEF UK at the EU Parliament on the 5th &6th Dec to raise awareness among key dignitaries specifically Linda McAvan, European Parliament Chair Committee on Development, Christos Stylianides, European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, and Mr. Justin Forsyth, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director
There was participation ofstudents from France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Slovakia, Slovenia, and the UK, MEPs, Participants from ECHO, UNICEF, UN, other Commission DGs, Media, Partners etc has now meant that the college has foreged several EU partners to build on some additional collaborative work
The students have been leading the campaign across the college and the community using social media platforms which have included the college website, Moodle and the Croydon borough press office. They will lobby the EU parliament members on behalf of the UK that ‘Education is an unconditional and inalienable human right for children round the world. We would like you to raise awareness and increase understanding and support amongst young people in Europe through the social media platforms. We would also like you to increase current funding to support ongoing education in emergencies from the 4% allocation to 6%’.
