Carise - Apprenticeships: Business & Administration
I decided to do this particular Apprenticeship in Business and Administration at Croydon University Hospital as I was unsure about what exactly I wanted to do in terms of a career path, so I thought that it was something productive which would open many different doors for me, especially considering it was for the NHS. The apprenticeship was an excellent learning curve and I was particularly fortunate to have been chosen to work in the Women and Family Services department which meant that I worked in the Antenatal and Gynaecology Clinics for 6 months which I really enjoyed. I then spent the next 6 months on the Labour ward. The best bit about my apprenticeship was learning something new every day and meeting up with my group to do various training courses which were very beneficial for personal development. I can’t begin to list the amount of training courses I have been on! The NHS is a great place to work; you meet amazing people and the staff is very supportive and welcoming. I have worked in many different departments where I have learnt a great deal – the opportunities in the NHS are fantastic! Through my apprenticeship I have developed excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, I’ve learnt to manage heavy workloads and to prioritise my work, and I’ve learnt to build working relationships with my colleagues. I have just been successful in gaining a full time position in the Antenatal and Gynaecology department and I will be starting my Access to Midwifery course at Greenwich Community College in September.
