Deaf and hearing impaired students
 

For students who are Deaf, we provide support while you are studying at the college. Over the last 5 years the Croydon College team has supported over 200 deaf and hearing impaired students on FE and HE courses.

Croydon College has its own specialist team and pool of regular freelance staff.

We have:

• Qualified and trainee teachers of the deaf
• Qualified and trainee interpreters
• Edexcel qualified Communication Support Workers (Level 3+)
• Note-takers
• Lip Speakers
• Portable sound field systems
• Loop systems

Support is provided:

• In the classroom
• In lectures
• In workshops
• In tutorials
• In 1 to 1 sessions

Deaf/hearing impaired students are able to access:

• One to one tutorials with a specialist tutor
• Qualified interpreters for BSL to English translation
• Group teaching for literacy and numeracy delivered in BSL

Students are able to request communication support for college activities and facilities, such as:

• elibrary
• Student Advice Services
• drama productions
• college events
