Free maths courses for adults

If you have always worried about Maths and would really like to improve your understanding of numbers then our new free Multiply Maths courses are the perfect way to get going. Whether you’re looking to boost your number skills to progress at work or to help with daily tasks, Multiply could be the next step to unlocking your potential and opening doors to new opportunities.

Courses are flexible and vary in length from 1 to 2 hour workshops and tasters to more structured 6 -18 week programmes. Courses are delivered mainly in the classroom so you can get all the support you need – while some elements can be accessed online.

Build confidence with numbers

Do you not get along with numbers? Is your lack of confidence stopping you from applying for jobs?

This course is a stepping-stone qualification that will both boost your confidence and enable you to progress to further qualifications such as a Level 2 Functional Skills in Maths or GCSE.

This course will help if you:

• Need more confidence before starting a college course
• Have a learning difficulty or disability
• Speak English as a second language
• Want to progress in your career and feel maths is holding you back.

 

Support your child with maths homework

Does helping your children with their homework leave you feeling frustrated?

Develop your confidence with everything from fractions to algebra. This course empowers and educates parents to support their children’s learning and makes it easier to help with homework. You’ll be shown current methods used in schools today and will be taken through the maths curriculum.

This course will help you:

• Develop confidence in maths
• Develop your understanding of the maths curriculum for Years 1 to 11
• Learn the current maths methods taught in schools.

Manage your budget

Do you need help getting to the root of your household budget?

This course will help you organise your finances. It will boost your numeracy skills with an emphasis on money management and daily expenditure.

This course will help you:

• Compare and choose loans, credit cards and energy tariffs
• Improve budgeting, planning and management of household expenses
• Understand how tax is calculated for your wages

How is the course delivered?

The course is delivered one day per week. This can be delivered with a combination of face-to-face with online practice and independent working. 

What topics are covered?

The essential concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals and percentages, time and money. There is a focus on clear explanations and practical examples, budgeting and saving.

What are the course objectives?

To build confidence in maths and improve numeracy skills. The course is designed to be practical and relevant to everyday life, including managing money.

Who can do Multiply? 

Anyone (19+) who wants to improve their maths skills and gain confidence using maths in everyday situations.

How is the course assessed? 

There are no exams but a possible progression to an accredited functional skills course and qualification from entry levels to level 2.

What are the benefits of the course?

Building a strong foundation and gaining confidence in maths, improving job and academic prospects with the possibility of progressing to a recognised functional skills maths course and improving overall knowledge.

What is the application process?

Existing students can sign a transfer and additional program form. If the student is new to the college, they should apply online through the college web page or in person with our Admissions Team.
